World GIS Day

There are currently about half a million GIS users around the world. Over the last decade or so, GIS use has grown rapidly in Nepal and, currently, more than 50 institutions are involved in GIS. The demand for GIS training and education is also on the rise. GIS Day - November 15 - is celebrated every year to help the public at large realise its potentials.

The GIS Day celebration is a public event to familiarise schools, businesses, and the general public with real-world applications of this important technology. Last year, more than 2,400 organisations (GIS users and venders) hosted GIS Day events in more than 91 different countries. Through this combined effort, over 2.4 million children and adults were familiarised with GIS.
